A voice rings out, “He’s got a gun!.” 6 first responders, including police officers, were working to detain a man in Nashville Tennessee one June night in 2022. A nearby security officer witnessed a man pull the gun out of his backpack. The officer did not hesitate. His training kicked in and he tackled the gunman and held him until the police officers took over. Thankfully the security officer reacted quickly. No one was harmed in this incident. Oakland, California, June 30, 2021. A news crew was filming when two armed subjects held them at gunpoint and tried to steal their camera. An armed private security officer, contracted by the news agency, pulled out his gun and told the robbers to leave. The suspects fled sans camera, and no one was injured. Similarly, in Bradenton, Florida security officers helped prevent another shooting incident. Security officers watched a woman at a hospital begin to load a gun in the emergency room at Blake Hospital. Police were immediately notified, and a security officer then approached the woman and detained her until police arrived. The woman was found with a semi-automatic gun equipped with a laser and 3 magazines with a total of 58 rounds. In Northern Ireland, thanks to an intelligence-led collaboration between two Amberstone Mobile Roaming Security Officers, the Amberstone Security Crime Desk, and the not-for-profit partnership Retailers Against Crime, members of an organized retail crime gang were identified, monitored, and apprehended. In brief, it began when 2 security officers used intelligence gathered by the Amberstone Security Crime Desk and Retailers Against Crime to set up surveillance in a small car park not covered by CCTV and known to be used by the offenders. This allowed two offenders to be identified and filmed perpetrating their criminal operation (retail merchandise theft) and led to their apprehension thus saving the involved businesses from large potential losses of merchandise. Flowood Mississippi. On July 4, 2022, an altercation broke out between two employees at Sanderson Farms. A knife was involved in the altercation, leaving one person with life threatening injuries. Police were notified and by the time they responded Sanderson Farms security officers had the two employees separated and had the individual wielding the knife in custody thereby preventing further injury and providing assistance to the responding police officers. The Flowood Police Department issued a statement that read, “The (FPD) would like to thank Sanderson Farms for their quick response in securing (the perpetrator) and getting their injured employee the much-needed medical help.” The quick reaction and medical training the security officers possessed quite possibly saved the injured employee’s life. Four Salt Lake City International Airport Transportation Security Administration officers were in the briefing room chatting and having a lunch break when a Supervisory TSA Officer (STSO) stopped in mid-sentence, stood up, red-faced and leaned over her desk. Another STSO realized she was choking. The STSO’s training kicked in and, having never had to use it before, she was able to perform the Heimlich maneuver and save the life of fellow officer. A guard in South Africa security officer’s awareness of his surroundings while on routine patrol helped prevent his client’s premises from burning down. He noticed an electrical adapter sparking. This soon spurred a fire that the guard was able to immediately extinguish. Further checks revealed popping and sparking throughout the site. The security officer took initiative and immediately switched off the main switch on the distribution board thereby preventing possible serious fire damage to the premises. Read more…
At San Francisco International Airport, a screening officer for Covenant Aviation Security, TSA’s security partner at SFO was enjoying a cup of coffee when he was put to the test. He noticed a young man jump out of a car and run to the trunk. The young man opened the trunk to find smoke billowing out of it. The screening security officer raced into the terminal and grabbed a fire extinguisher. He showed the young man how to use it so he could go for an additional extinguisher. He then sprayed the top of the car’s hybrid battery pack that was on fire. While doing this he was also on the phone with a 911 dispatcher to call the fire department to the scene. Had he not stepped in to help the entire car could have gone up in flames. The whole area would have been shut down for hours and that’s not to mention damage the property could have taken.
